My Background and Inspiration

While an arts administration student at Columbia University, I studied fascinating legal problems confronting artists and nonprofit institutions. I was inspired to go to law school. I knew what I wanted to do: use my legal skills to help artists and nonprofit organizations. After spending almost 10 years as a corporate attorney in New York City, I founded the Virtual Arts Law Center in 2007. My law practice is devoted to the law of nonprofit organizations, small businesses, artists, writers, and others who seek devoted legal assistance for creative endeavors.

How I Practice Law and Help My Clients

I help my clients identify and resolve legal issues in an efficient and cost-effective manner.  Client relationships are very important to me. I seek to understand the client's mission, goals, constituency, budget, and management style. Then, I work with clients to address legal issues within the context of each organization's “personality.” I work with clients to devise a billing structure that works best for the organization or individual. For some, standard per-hour billing works best.  For nonprofit corporations, where appropriate, I apply a sliding scale based on the organization's annual budget.  For other clients (including nonprofits), per-project pricing is the better solution.  Flexible billing options are some of the ways I help my clients reach their unique goals at the best value.
